Wednesday 16th March 2011 The Art Stars video of the studio sessions is now online

As the winners were preparing to create their stars just a few short weeks ago, here at Art Stars, we were also gearing up to capture the magic.

During the course of 14 days, we visited the studios of seven mentors and their 16 visiting winning artists in cities across Europe. There was a tremendous amount of creativity and passion that went into creating these artworks, but we didn't want the experience of making them to go unseen either.

From London to Athens, we were able to hear how this talented group felt about sharing a studio, meeting their mentors, and what they all hoped to gain from their experience working on the 2011 Art Stars project.

The video is an inside look at the project as it catches a glimpse of the artists’ stars in progress and how they approached the star-shaped canvas, but more importantly it relays the artists' background behind their concept.

In the video, artist Robin Cracknell and mentor Jasper Joffe discuss Cracknell’s storyboard concept for the star and how in some ways, both the star and 'us' all are made of the same material. It also shows the light-hearted fun that many had with their star, as German artist Buff Diss took his finished work outside of CASE's studio in Frankfurt to add one of his signature hands composed of tape, holding the object on the ground.

It is bittersweet to see it all come to a close, but to recall the excitement as it unfolded during this memorable experience, click here and watch the video.

Be sure to also check back and see where each of the Art Stars will be exhibited in a city near you in the upcoming months!

Polo Jeans Co. Ralph Lauren Art Stars

Polo Jeans Co. Ralph Lauren Art Stars

In January 2010, Polo Jeans Co. Ralph Lauren commissioned over 40 of Europe’s most exciting young contemporary artists to customise stars made from the finest American denim.

With the iconic Stars and Stripes flag for inspiration, each young artist was tasked with creating something totally unique: beyond the shapes and sizes of the Art Stars, the only limit was their imaginations...

Each Art Star will appear in a Polo Jeans Co. store, before joining a public exhibition in London in late 2010.

Contemporary art and fashion aficionados will have the opportunity to own one of these exclusive Art Stars.

All the stars created will be brought together in a public exhibition in London in late 2010 and auctioned in aid of Teenage Cancer Trust.

Teenage Cancer Trust is a charity dedicated to improving the lives of young people with cancer between the ages of 13-24.

Teenagers don’t stop being teenagers because they have cancer, which is why Teenage Cancer Trust builds specialist units in NHS hospitals, staffed by teenage cancer specialists.

These units are designed for and by young people and aim to give teenage cancer patients the very best chance of a positive outcome whilst being as close as possible to normal life.

State-of-the-art facilities keep patients occupied during long, and often grueling stays, whilst bringing teenagers with cancer together so they can support each other.
