It’s down to the final week before the closing of the open-call contest! This Friday, February 4th, 2011 is the last day for entries, so there’s no better time to submit your idea for a star than now.
The brief calls on you to draw from iconic American imagery interpreted through your own practice, which means that you’re encouraged to use mediums that may include painting, photography, video, light, sound, text as well as experimental approaches including 3D and performance. We are looking for some talented ways of expressing creative ideas: beyond the shapes and sizes of the ART STARS, the only limit is your imagination...
ART STARS 2011 is combined with a week-long, in-studio session under the guidance of an ART STARS Mentor from the 2010 campaign. A total of 14 successful applicants will experience working in a Mentor’s studio to create their star, which will later be exhibited on an extraordinary scale in the world’s most exciting cities.
Winners will receive a 120 cm star-shaped, double-sided denim canvas to work with, a €1,000 commission prize, and €500 towards materials cost and the completed works will be shown as part of the 2011 Polo Jeans Co. ART STARS campaign including a store-front exhibition.
Besides the commission prize, exhibition, and studio experience, this is also a chance to put your work in front of some of the most prominent critics and curators in the art world who are known for spotting emerging talent.
