Italian stencil artists Sten and Lex are known for their witty portraits, often of prominent political and religious figures. Hand-painted works of everyone from Christopher Columbus to the Dali Lama are pasted onto wood and tagged with the duo’s distinctive name badge, serving as a running social commentary on the world around them. Having met at university in 2002, Sten and Lex have exhibited everywhere from New York to Norway – and even narrowly escaped a prison cell in Naples by painting a work in the house of the chief of police.
