Art Star No.24. ARRÊTES DE JOUER TA REUSTA, 2010. Acrylic and mixed media on denim.
One of France’s foremost urban artists, Paris-based Alëxone portrays a fantasy world of Edward Lear-esque characters in his paintings and murals. Rising to fame on the streets of Paris with a series of Oedipus-inspired tags, Alëxone has gone on to exhibit worldwide. His book, Came à Yeux, is one of the most beautiful art and illustration tomes to date, and you can see his work on everything from racing cars to TV sets to beer packaging.
Questions & Answers
- " What kind of art do you make?"
I paint.
- " Where can I see it?"
Mainly in Europe, especially in Paris, where I live.
- " How do you feel about Polo Jeans Co.'s ART STARS project?"
Wait to see my star: I think they will shine with thousands of colours when we see them altogether!
- " Describe your finished ART STAR in a sentence?"
It’s dark and fresh.
- " What did you think when it first arrived at your studio?"
It’s much bigger than in the picture!
- " You were asked to use the Stars and Stripes for inspiration. How did you incorporate it into your star?"
I painted it, and the rest fitted into the composition.
- " What else inspired you?"
Paint and glitter.
- " How did you find working with denim?"
I’ve previously painted on fabric a lot, and I’d produced a series painted on denim for a show in Paris. I like the deepness of its colour, and playing with a fabric that absorbs paint quite this much.
- " What processes did you use to create your piece?"
It’s free style!
- " What are you most proud of about the result?"
I like the mix between dirty and clean.
- " Describe your denim style..."
I like the wide, comfortable, baggy style.
- " Who else's star are you most looking forward to seeing and why?"
Stars from the artists I don’t know – and the ones from my friends too! Actually, I want to see all of them. I like to see new paintings.
